There’s a new Galaxy Note flagship in town, but it doesn’t mean older devices in the lineup are going to be forgotten, as Samsung is proving by rolling out the August security update to the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy Note 8 on the same day. Oddly enough, both devices are getting the update in mostly the same countries, which is not something that happens often.
The Galaxy Note 9 update is out in Switzerland, Romania, France, Poland, Bulgaria, the Baltic states, and Greece and comes with software version N960FXXS3CSG5. The Note 8 update is out in France, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, and Italy and bumps the software version up to N950FXXS7DSH1. The updates are likely to have only the new security patch to offer, as indicated by the S after ‘XX’ in the build numbers (when there are other changes or new features onboard, the S is usually replaced by a U).
If you own either a Note 9 or Note 8, you can open the Settings app on the device, navigate to Software update, then select the Download and install option to manually download the update over the air. You can also upgrade by flashing the firmware for the new update using a Windows PC – you can download the latest firmware for both devices from our firmware database (Note 8 | Note 9).
